Infrastructure Architect

Join our Chicago office and work with the Global Platform Infrastructure Team as the Infrastructure Architect. In this position you will define, architect and coordinate the implementation of infrastructure necessary to support deployment and operation of global web-based systems. The goals of the role include analyzing business and technology needs of multiple systems and solutions, creating solutions to meet these needs, and ensuring adequate capacity, scalability, security, and flexibility. You will also work with other teams on definition and implementation of environments and other infrastructure solutions, and manage infrastructure-centric projects. Infrastructure refers to networks and server environments used by global information management systems.

• Assess infrastructure and environment needs on projects and systems and recommend architectural solutions
• Conduct and lead infrastructure design, including logical network design, server topology, and environment placement
• Perform infrastructure capacity planning and ensure system environments are adequately scalable for anticipated growth and availability
• Manage or coordinate environment implementation in close cooperation with multiple related teams
• Provide technical support related to environment configuration, patching, and infrastructure security
• Ensure appropriate infrastructure and environment management practices are in place
• Manage infrastructure-centric projects
• Participate in platform-wide architecture activities
• Recommend and implement process changes to improve infrastructure management and architecture practices
• Develop and document procedures and policies for infrastructure architecture, design, implementation, and tracking
• Track infrastructure-centric expenditures on project-centric and cross-platform basis
• Provide reporting on key efficiency and effectiveness metrics for infrastructure initiatives

• 6+ years of IT experience with 2 years of Senior-level Systems Analyst-related experience.
• 4+ years of experience designing, specifying, deploying, supporting and managing sophisticated server environments on a national/global scale.
• 6+ years experience in a multi-server enterprise-wide application environment.
• Solid understanding of global and regional aspects of various networks and server configuration approaches.
• Proficient in installing and administering large scale server environments.
• Experience architecting, designing, and deployment environments for global web-based systems.
• Extensive experience with "wintel" technologies such as Windows 2000, Windows 2003, SQL Server, Active Directory, and other Microsoft server products.
• Experience implementing infrastructure management tools such as SMS, MOM, NetIQ, or equivalent.
• Experience with relevant non-Microsoft server technologies including backup systems, monitoring systems, and security systems.
• Experience delivering infrastructure solutions in secure environments. Knowledge of infrastructure security methods, including firewalls, proxies, encryption, PKI, PGP, security zoning, and security appliances required.
• Track record of effectively dealing with technology vendors and hosting providers
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to communicate both verbally and written to all levels of personnel and business clients, varying language and technical skills.
• Displays facilitation and leadership skills.
• Prior project management experience.
• Strong system analytical and troubleshooting skills in globally distributed secure environments.
• Microsoft Certified Professional, Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer and Bachelor's degree in Computer Information Systems, Computer Science or related field or equivalent experience.
